Gangster or Bandit?

Anyone that has ridden The Great Movie Ride knows that there is a rather fun interactive feature within the ride, where the tram is hijacked by either a gangster or bandit, who guides the ride through a few films before their own undoing. This concept was implemented for a few reasons. First, the two types of interaction added some variety to an otherwise long ride. Second, the alternative areas for an interactive element allowed for more tram cars to pass through the ride while still being treated to a show.

During the scene from The Public Enemy, the second tram car will stop at a red street light that is shining above the tunnel entrance. While stopped, a gangster named Mugsy (male) or Mugsi (female) will show up. The tram car will be caught in gang crossfire. To escape, the gangster will hijack the tram and lead the original guide into an alleyway. The gangster then shoots the red traffic light and continues his or her escape.

During the busy season, the first tram car drives through the scene without pause and continue into the western scene where audio-animatronics of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood are present. The tram is stopped in front of the old bank, which had just been robbed. A bandit named Kate Durango (female) or Kid Carson (male), hijacks the tram car and carries on into the next movie.

The hijacking in the western scene is usually reserved for very busy times at the park, such as summer and the holiday season. Most other times of the year, all riders will experience the hijacking in the gangster scene. The differences are very minor to the overall ride experience since every scene, aside from these two, are the same.

If you'd like to chose which version during a busy time of the year, head for the back tram car for the gangster scene. If you'd like to see the western scene, head for the car in front. Since the ride is actually a high-capacity attraction, be sure to ask a cast member to see if both scenes are running. Guests that ask in advance usually always get their choice.
