Based off the popular books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, “Tarzan the Ape Man” brings to life the tale of a man that is raised by apes. When the Clayton find themselves marooned in the African wilderness, the learn to live off the land hoping that one day they will be rescued. Mrs. Clayton gives birth to a baby boy named Tarzan. When the happy couple are murdered by Kerchak, a large gorilla, and his band of apes, the young boy is left to fend for himself. By gaining tactical hunting skills and finally killing Kerchak, Tarzan becomes the 'king' of the apes.

Years later, a group of new white settlers become marooned along the coast of the jungle. In this lot are Jane Porter and William Cecil Clayton (Tarzan's cousin, thus, only known heir to the Clayton estate). Tarzan is attracted to Jane, likewise, Jane sees beyond his savagery as she attempts to understand his world.

The scene in The Great Movie Ride features the main characters from the film. Jane, dressed like a native, sits upon Tantor the elephant, while Cheeta the chimpanzee screeches. Tarzan swings along a vine on the left while making his unforgettable yodel-like scream.
