Raiders of the Lost Ark ![]() [Photo: Original "Raiders of the Lost Ark" movie poster from 1981.] Renowned archaeologist and expert in the occult, Dr. Indiana Jones, is hired by the U.S. Government to find the Ark of the Covenant, which is believed to still hold the ten commandments. Unfortunately, agents of Hitler are also after the Ark. Indy, and his ex-flame Marion, escape from various close scrapes in a quest that takes them from Nepal to Cairo.
In this 1981 film, Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, teams up with a group of locals, the daughter of Jones' former mentor, and other adventurers. They arrive in Cairo, Egypt and begin to excavate the Well of Souls where the legendary Ark of the Lost Covenant is hidden. Indiana Jones is lowered into the subterranean tomb and uses a magic scepter to activate the hiding spot. He is able to send the ark above ground, but finds himself trapped underground when his arch nemesis closes the opening. Indiana must find a way out, but during his efforts he finds he's not alone in the cave. As the famous line goes, “Snakes...why does it have to be snakes?”
The scene in The Great Movie Ride has three parts of the Indiana Jones scene. The first features Indiana Jones and a crew member lifting the ark out of the well. The next scene brings use into a large chamber, decorated with hieroglyphics, with a large statue of Egyptian god, Ra, encrusted with a large jewel. The tram hijacker leaves from the car in order to steal it, only to be entrapped by the jewel's curse. The original tour guide emerges from a worshiper's disguise and begins the tour again. The last scene of the film brings the guests deeper in into the tomb where dimly lit states of ancient gods sit and hissing snakes slither.
